Photography For Whom? is a new periodical focused on socially-engaged photography. Published twice yearly, Photography For Whom? seeks to shine light on significant work of the past and to generate debate about contemporary practice.

Sweet Debris Catalogue Launch

Waterside Arts Centre is hosting an event to launch the exhibition catalogue for their current exhibition, Sweet Debris, with a discussion on how the project came to fruition, led by curator Mario Popham who will be joined by Open Eye's curator Thomas Dukes and exhibiting artists from Sweet Debris.

A day of conversations around artistic and academic exchange between the UK and China. Speakers will talk through what makes successful collaborations, looking at how to foster good relationships and create meaningful work together.

A rare chance to hear Turkish photographer Ali Taptik talk about his experiences ‘photographing the local’, he will be interviewed by photographer and lecturer Gavin Parry. Ali is currently visiting Manchester from his home in Istanbul on the invitation of artists’ ensemble Quarantine as part of their Tenancy programme.

Please join us for a four hour beginners workshop with Redeye Member Jeni Harney to learn the step by step proccess of how to make your own Cyanotype prints. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. The event is part of a Redeye series where members suggest and host events based on their skills or interests. Photography Short Courses - University of Salford

The University of Salford has organised three short photography based courses that run through June and July. Introduction to darkroom photography, intermediate darkroom photography and photography for performance will be run by experienced professionals to develop your technical skills.

Leading up to its 50th anniversary, The Photographer’s Gallery presents The Ethics of Photography. A series of talks discussing ethical issues faced through photography. The first of these events, The Ethics of… Capturing, reflects on TPG’s opening exhibiton, the concerned photographer. 

Artists' Talk: Indre Serpytyte

Born in Lithuania, Indre Serpytyte is an artist living and working in London. Indre is concerned with the impact of conflict and war on history and perception. She works with photography, sculpture and installation. In association with her new work When the Golden Sun is Sinking, Indre will be talking about her practice, research and commission.

Some say this is an unfortunate by-product of the internet and social media, but it is possible to be paid for this work by following a few simple rules. Following his very popular session at the National Photography Symposium 2018, we are delighted to be working in partnership with the NUJ to welcome back photographer John Walmsley to explain how to do it.
