Parachute is a publication by BA (Hons) Contemporary Photography Degree at Stockport College; showcasing work from recent graduates, alumni and Staff of the course and is designed and produced in collaboration with BA (Hons) Graphic Arts and Design.

FotoDoks Festival 2012

The fifth FotoDoks Festival for contemporary documentary photography takes place in Munich, Germany in October 2012, and includes lectures, discussions, workshops, exhibitions and tours. This year the partner country is the UK.

The theme for 2012 is ACHTUNG?! – respect, control, change. The festival opens at 19:00 on 17 October at Munich City Museum and features photographers and speakers including Simon Norfolk, Christoph Bangert, Anastasia Taylor Lind, Jacob Holdt, Thomas Seelig, Jocelyn Bain Hogg and many others, as well as the ZEITmagazin Photo Award 2012.

NEPN Photographer Talk series: John Kippin

NEPN welcomes John Kippin who will discuss new creative approaches and departures in his recent practice.

John will also show experimental work from his archive that hasn't been previously exhibited. John Kippin is an artist and photographer working within the broad context of landscape. He is currently showing (with Chris Wainwright) in Futureland Now: Reflections on the Post-Industrial Landscape at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle until 20th January.

Career Development 2: Marketing and Networking

Artists are often modest people and blowing their own trumpet doesn't always come easily, but fortunately the opportunities available are increasing every day with a range of new ways to reach clients.

Networking is an invaluable tool in this and the impact that word of mouth and opinion formers can have is important to consider when trying to get ahead. This one-day session looks at the ways in which photographers, artists and makers can promote themselves and their work throughout marketing and networking.

Redeye is delighted to welcome ex-Liverpool ‘photographer to the stars’ John Stoddart, back to Open Eye Gallery for our Liverpool Network Meeting in October.

John Stoddart exhibited at Open Eye in the early 80s before abandoning social documentary photography to set up a studio in London. Since then he’s photographed the likes of Iggy Pop, Martin Scorcese, Prince Charles and Liz Hurley, as well as creating risque portraits that fuse fantasy and fame.

Incamera Arts - Jonathan Stead

Incamera Arts is a group based on alternative processes and techniques in photography. There are no limits and no rules; show off your creativity and enjoy the creativity of others. Whether it is film or digital come along and share experimental techniques.

This group meeting will have a guest photographer, Jonathan Stead, who has studios in Sheffield. Jonathan is interested in historic photographic processes. He also makes his own cameras and runs workshops.

Talk by Martin Parr

Martin Parr will be coming to give a talk at the Beaufort Park Hotel, Mold on Thursday 11th October as part of Mold Camera Club’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations.

Martin Parr is a chronicler of our age and is known for his satirical documentation of contemporary British life. In a career spanning over 40 years, his work is a darkly comic and often sharp look at the quirkiness of British Society.

'Worktown's 75th Birthday' Exhibition Talks

Join us for an afternoon of FREE talks about Mass Observation, the Worktown project and Humphrey Spender's pioneering documentary photography, featured in our exhibition celebrating 75 years of Worktown. The talks will be followed by a screening of “Stranger than Fiction”, a feature length documentary directed by Ian Potts about the Worktown Observers.

Landscape Weekend

Prior will host a full weekend workshop on landscape photography, providing the opportunity for landscape photographers to develop their skills and seek advice on their images.

Come down and see what our lovely creatives get up to behind closed doors when they fling open their studios to display their talents and wares. AWOL’s 81 studios house over 120 creative individuals and businesses including fine art, ceramics, photography, graphics, fashion, crafts, jewellery, sculpture, animators and many more.
