We regret to announce that after 26 years of supporting photographers and championing photography throughout the UK, Redeye, the Photography Network will wind down on 31 July 2024 due to a number of factors, including lack of funding. This Review Session is designed for students of photography, amateur photographers, and those thinking of becoming a professional and wishing to take your photography skills to the next level.

This session will enable participants to submit up to six photographs to be reviewed by our BX tutors during a 30-minute one-on-one review session.

Howard Barlow - Adapting Practice

How can photographers adapt to a changing market while remaining true to their core aims and interests? In the current financial climate maintaining a career in photography is increasingly difficult and photographers have to find ways to build and diversify their practices. At this network event, award-winning photographer Howard Barlow talks about his 30-year professional career and the ways in which he has adjusted his work to reflect market pressures. This will be followed by questions and discussion.

Redeye, in collaboration with The Imperial War Museum North (IWMN), brings you a two-day intensive masterclass with Edmund Clark, considered one of the leading contemporary photographers in the UK. This masterclass is timed to coincide with IWMN’s exhibition Catalyst: Contemporary Art and War that features work from Clark’s project Guantanamo: If the Light Goes Out.

This practical course is aimed at people wishing to further develop their knowledge and practice of photography. It introduces participants to practical knowledge of studio and street photography.

Participants also gain an insight into contemporary photography practice and the history of Belfast Exposed. A 20% discount is available for participants who have completed a BX Stage One course.

Erik Knudsen - Photography and Filmmaking

Photographers are increasingly encouraged to investigate filmmaking as another tool in their practice. How easy is the transition, and how does it work going the other way, from filmmaker to photographer? For Redeye's January 2014 networking event we are delighted to welcome Erik Knudsen. Well-known as an independent filmmaker, and Professor of Film Practice at the University of Salford, Erik now films primarily on DSLR and has a thriving photographic practice.

Introductory Level Stage One: Using Your Digital Camera (3 Sessions)

This practical, hands-on BX Introductory Level course is designed for beginners and those wishing to refresh previous knowledge.

You will get an introduction to your camera’s manual controls, getting to know the potential of your camera as well as taking the hit and miss out of picture taking.

A very rare chance to obtain a signed first edition copy of Tom Wood's new book, Men and Women, and attend a short introductory talk and signing with Tom in Liverpool. The book consists of two hardback volumes in a paper slipcase. Both volumes will be signed. Copies are limited to one per person.
