Snapshot: Altered Images

6 December 2021, 18:00 to 18:30

Redeye's Snapshots are a series of skill sharing workshops, offering quick introductions to new creative ideas and techniques.

In this snapshot event, Rachel Wallace brings us back to basics, working with the physical print in her workshop about altering imagery. She will bring us through her playful process of painting, folding, layering and stiching on imagery. Moving away from the idea of the digital image being seen on a digital screen, we are encouraged to respond physically to the print as opposed to digitally as we embellish and intervene with it. This 30 minute workshop aims to inspire you to look and interact with imagery, either of your own or someone else's, in a fun and playful way.

Born in 1963, UK Rachel Wallace studied at Central St Martins and later received her MA in Photography Arts from the University of Westminster in 2018. Her practice concerns itself in the interplay between ourselves, land and nature addressing the issues of life, death, and decay. Her instinctive and visceral reaction to our interlinking life cycles with the natural world is often described as a delicate and poetic.

She is an award-winning photographer working with a variety of cameras and techniques to respond to and illustrate her response to the natural world. In 2018 Alona Pardo chose her for newcomer of the graduating year saying that her work is ““hinting at a dark undertow while also alluding to the harmony and connection between self and nature

Rachel's work is held in private collections and has been shown nationally and internationally in solo and group shows in London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Korea. She is frequently published.
