Portfolio, Critique and Advice sessions
Slots from 1pm to 5pm, 16 May 2013
The Bluecoat, Garden and Sandon rooms

Book in for half an hour with one or two of our experts to discuss business and career issues or for advice on your portfolio.

TICKETS: £15 (£12.50 students, £10 Redeye members) per 30-minute session, up to 2 sessions per person, This price applies for the first 30 sessions booked. After that it's £30 per session.

Portfolio Development workshop: Editing and Sequencing, with Alina Kisina
2pm to 4pm, 16 May 2013; The Bluecoat Library

This workshop with Alina Kisina gives you an unusual opportunity to work with a small group both to improve your own portfolio, and with the additional dimension of seeing how others might improves theirs'.

The Perfect Portfolio by Paul Herrmann, Director of Redeye

For many photographers their portfolio is the key way to show their work to others, but it doesn't always go as well as it could. It's a good idea to think about it from the perspective of the person looking at your portfolio - what kind of experience do you want them to have? How can you make it the highlight of their day? Paul Herrmann outlines the relatively simple ways you can improve your portfolio and its presentation.

Symposium introductory talks: John Davies and Laura Pannack
6:30pm to 8:00pm, 16 May 2013; The Bluecoat Performance Space
Start your weekend early with two great presentations.
Celebrated Liverpool-based landscape photographer John Davies talks on The Landscape as Self-Portrait. Davies will consider how much a landscape photograph can say about the photographer who took it.
The second talk is by photographer Laura Pannack. In a presentation entitled 'Looking Through the Lens', Laura explores trust, vulnerability and self-image in the
photographic portrait.

FRIDAY 17 MAY 2013

The National Photography Symposium: Now and Next in Photography
9:30am to 5:30pm, The Bluecoat Performance Space

The fifth National Photography Symposium, the gathering place for ideas and discussion about photography, presents an unmissable survey of the current state of photography. Top experts, thinkers and commentators offer the most interesting perspectives on what's happening now and next in the medium.

Register from 9:30am; Symposium runs 10:00am till 5:30pm on 17 May 2013. Immediately afterwards the launch of the LOOK/13 Photography Festival takes place in the building. Redeye and Festival events continue on Saturday 18 May.

The morning explores developments in the culture, technology and interpretation of photography. The afternoon looks at work, institutions and funding.

TICKETS The first 50 tickets are on sale at £25 (£20 for students, £15 for Redeye members). After that the price will be £30, £25 and £20. If any tickets are left, the price on the door will be £40. This price does not include refreshments.

SATURDAY 18 MAY 2013

Tom Wood talk and book launch
11am to 1pm, 18 May 2013; The Bluecoat Performance Space

We are delighted to welcome photographer Tom Wood, 'Photie Man', for his first public talk in the city where he made the majority of his work. He will show his work, and answer questions. The event is followed by the Liverpool launch and signing of his new book in two volumes, 'Men and Women.'

TICKETS: The first 50 tickets are on sale at £5 (£4 for students, £3 for Redeye members). After that the price will be £7, £6 and £5. If any tickets are left, the price on the door will be £10.

Photography Activists' Boot Camp
11am to 3pm (timing TBC), 18 May 2013; The Bluecoat Library

This nuts-and-bolts workshop is aimed at photographers who have an interest in getting involved in the politics of photography, and are keen to do more to campaign on a range of issues that affect photography - access, law, copyright, dealing with authorities and protecting freedom of expression.

TICKETS: free, by application. Please apply by sending a paragraph outlining who you are, any relevant background, and how you would benefit from this workshop. Deadline for applications 1 May 2013.
