Redeye's Exhibition Workshops

Summer 2006, Touchstones Rochdale

Are you a photographer looking for that elusive way in to the exhibition world?
Redeye's Exhibition Workshops could make it happen.

Many photographers are making good work but fewer are equipped with what it takes to get their work into galleries. If you're ready to make the leap into the exhibition world, this course of workshops is for you.

We're looking for a group of up to 12 photographers to take part in a course of workshops starting in Summer 2006, and culminating in a group exhibition in a main gallery at Touchstones Rochdale, the arts and heritage centre for the borough of Rochdale, in Spring 2007.

What will the workshops involve?

• Ideas: making your ideas strong, well-developed, relevant and appealing to the public, curators and funders.
• Building your photography: giving your work the impact and quality needed; developing from critique and discussion.
• Working with others: working to a theme for the exhibition in collaboration with the group, the gallery and sponsors; dividing and assigning tasks efficiently and fairly.
• Practical aspects of printing, mounting, framing and hanging.
• Marketing, publicising and launching the exhibition.
The course will be led by experienced photographers AJ Wilkinson and Sarah Eyre, who have led the previous four Redeye Summer Exhibition Workshops. It will also include lectures from gallery professionals as well as free attendance at two Redeye critique/surgeries.

Who are they aimed at?

The selected participants will have a good knowledge of photography, and be keen to improve their work further by developing their ideas and their critical and practical skills. You will be happy to collaborate with a group and willing to work with the gallery, press, public and contemporary issues. You can be based anywhere in the world but we particularly welcome applicants from the Rochdale area.

When and where?

The first six workshops are planned for 22nd and 29th July; 12th August, 2nd, 16th and 30th September 2006. The final three will be arranged during the course. All will take place at Touchstones Rochdale, UK. The Redeye critique sessions take place on the first Monday evening of each month in Manchester, UK.

Cost

The cost for the course is £65 for unwaged; £125 (including VAT) for waged. Participants will receive financial help towards the cost of producing their exhibition work.

Attendance

You will be required to attend at least 6 of the 9 workshops.
