- How can you get round copyright "grabs" and make licensing the centre of your business model?
- How do you find a balance between protecting your work and getting it seen?
- Is it still possible to get a good price for stock and library photography, and how should you price a print?
- Are there any occasions when you should work for free?
- What paperwork do you need to protect your business and avoid problems in the future?
- How might we be affected by orphan works legislation?
- Photographers increasingly run into legal issues in the course of taking pictures. The continually changing legal position of taking photographs in public causes regular problems, and in a newsworthy setting these problems are magnified. |
- What's the difference between a public place and a private land to which the public have access?
- What can you legally photograph in either case?
- What powers do police, security guards and other officials have to stop you photographing?
- When do you need consent, or model releases?
- What are your legal rights and responsibilities as a photographer?
Jo and Christoph of Shaw and Shaw
Jo and Christoph Shaw aka Shaw & Shaw have been working together for 15 years. They are based in Manchester and work mainly with design and advertising agencies. They are represented in London by Siobhan Squire with whom they've recently completed campaigns for Canon, Barclaycard, VW and Blackberry
Steve is the Head of IP and Media and leads Bermans’ Creative Industries Team.
He specialises in contentious and non-contentious Intellectual Property, Media and Social Media legal issues, working primarily in the Media, Creative, Film, Television, Marketing, Advertising and PR sectors but advising a wide range of regional, national and international clients on issues involving branding, content and reputation management.
Allegedly Manchester’s most-followed Lawyer on Twitter, Steve is nationally recognised as a leading expert in the evolving legal issues in the Social Media environment.
Aside from his day job, Steve is a Board Member of ProManchester and co-Chairman of Creative pro∙manchester. Steve is also a member of the Council of Manchester Law Society and the National Law Society, a Board Member of the MPA, a Director of Manchester Creative Studio, a Trustee of NOISE Festival, a Non-Executive Director of Rochdale Development Agency and an Ambassador for Forever Manchester.
Paul is director of Redeye, The Photography Network and has extensive knowledge spanning both the professional and arts photography sectors including issues ranging from copyright to ethics to portfolio and career development. As a practitioner he apprenticed in the 1980s with former Picture Post photographer Humphrey Spender. Paul’s work has appeared in newspapers, magazines and exhibitions nationally and internationally.
