New airline hand luggage rules

From 22nd September 2006 the UK Department of Transport relaxed the rules about airline hand luggage that have caused such problems for photographers. There is still only a single piece of hand luggage allowed. But the maximum size for that is now 56 x 45 x 25 cm.

Liverpool Biennial demystified

The Liverpool Biennial is the UK’s largest visual arts festival, a feast for lovers of exciting new art. Just to repeat: it’s big. If you’re hoping to use a spare couple of hours in Liverpool to get an overview of the Biennial, forget it. It will take you almost that long to get to grips with the guides. There's a lot of written material to plough through. But if you read this before you go, your path should be smoother.

Look 07 site launch and competition

Look 07 and the Manchester Food and Drink Festival have launched an open photographic competition on Look 07’s new website:

The competition is open until the 2 October and is related to the five themes of the festival. The prizes include a night in a luxury city centre apartment, dinner at one of Manchester's best restaurants and a chance to shadow Jill Jennings, Look 07's commissioned artist on her next photographic commission.

For seventeen consecutive years, the Hereford Photography Festival has presented a broad range of quality international photography. Under the directorship of Paul Wombell, who was recently appointed, the festival will open on Saturday 30th September until Saturday 28th October. The whole thing takes place in a lovely part of the world and the Festival is known for its minimum of fuss and maximum attention to photography, so is well worth a visit.
