Gowers Review Underwhelms

The Gowers Review of Intellectual Property (IP), commissioned by Gordon Brown and widely anticipated to be the most significant influence on UK copyright legislation since the 1988 Act, appears to offer little immediate help for individual creators such as photographers. Many organisations, including Redeye, had lobbied for practical help for photographers faced with issues such as copyright 'grabs' (mandatory copyright assignment) by large companies and increasing copyright theft. There was disappointment that these issues have not been addressed.

Impressions Gallery is launching a series of portfolio review events for up-and-coming photographers to receive feedback on their work from the Impressions curatorial team. The first Sounding Board will take place on 3 February 2007 at the Great Victoria Hotel, Bradford.

Spot the Photography Museum

The National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, Bradford, changed its name to the National Media Museum on 1st December 2006. But despite dropping 'photography' from the title, they say they 'plan to develop and strengthen our offer around photography.'
