We regret to announce that after 26 years of supporting photographers and championing photography throughout the UK, Redeye, the Photography Network will wind down on 31 July 2024 due to a number of factors, including lack of funding. The event is free and will be held in the Deane Suite and Lecture Theatre, Design Studio, University of Bolton from 5:00pm - 8:00pm.

Rineke Dijkstra Talk

12 December 2007, 00:00

A key figure in contemporary portraiture, Rineke Dijkstra often chooses to photograph her subjects at times when their inner lives are most likely to be externalised. By isolating them using carefully controlled lighting and backgrounds, using a style that refers as much to old master painting as to contemporary photography, her subjects can seem vulnerable and off guard, and her work has a particular balance of strength and subtlety. She lives and works in Amsterdam and exhibits worldwide. See www.rinekedijkstra.net

Martin Parr Talk

28 November 2007, 00:00

It's impossible to ignore Martin Parr. One of the most important photographers of his generation, he is known around the world for redefining documentary photography. In an era when spin and vested interests are blurring the chains of control, he seeks out and photographs the true sources of social power - the disconnected middle and upper classes at home and at play. All this is done with wit, visual flair and occasional grotesquerie that continues to generate debate. He's a member of Magnum, and also supports photography by curating, editing and championing it.
