YOUTH TAKE ON PRESTON
A Heritage Lottery Funded Project

The ‘Youth take on Preston’ project was delivered by CSV Training & Enterprise North West a division of national volunteering charity CSV. Our aim is to engage with individuals and communities through the provision of innovative and creative volunteering, learning and training opportunities. In Preston our target group are young people, aged 13 to 25. We use media related projects to engage them in positive, experiential learning activities. We offer a wide variety of media projects, ranging from community film activities to youth magazine production.

The YTOP project involved 20 young people from Preston, the vast majority of whom had no previous experience of photography. The group of young people received practical hands on guidance from experienced professional photographer Michael Mackenzie.

The young people focused some of their attention on capturing the images and heritage of a number of key buildings in central Preston that are due for redevelopment as part of the Tithebarn regeneration project. In addition to the landmark buildings that you will see the young people were also asked to focus upon buildings and spaces that are pertinent to them, capturing the images and carrying out research into the history of the building; when it was built, what its uses have been over the years, what it means to other young people.

This exhibition features 30 of these images. You can also see and hear details of the young people involved through the PowerPoint presentation that is available to view.

THE EXHIBITION RUNS FROM APRIL 1ST - 30TH APRIL 2008 AT UCLAN STUDENTS UNION ATRIUM FYLDE RD PRESTON. TEL - 01772 892250
