Surfaces, buildings and objects are transfigured, starting with the precision with which they are photographed. Dean Chapman's new exhibition explores the aftermath of Japan's 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
It marks the second anniversary of the catastrophe, which came on March 11, 2011. Three months later Dean traveled down the northeast coast of Honshu, Japan’s main island, photographing devastated communities that he had previously documented in the summer of 1999.
He photographed again in autumn 2011 and 2012, capturing the widespread damage and loss, as well as the slow, methodical clean-up and reconstruction. The exhibition brings together work from all four journeys. More →

Irish-born Edward Chambré Hardman (b.1898 d.1988) is best known for his photograph The Birth of the Ark Royal (1950) and for the highly successful commercial portrait studio that he ran on Liverpool’s Bold Street from 1923, and Rodney Street from 1949. More →
The fortunes of Rhyl seem to rise and fall like the waves on its beach. A once vibrant place is now, like many Victorian seaside resorts, either in decline or in transition. Stephen Clarke’s photographs and photomontages picture these changes.
Melancholic black and white photographs depict sites now gone such as the ‘Ocean Beach’ funfair and the ‘Coliseum’ theatre, whilst the digital colour photomontages overlap text and images from celebratory postcards of different time periods in the resort’s history. More →
