Photography Matters is a one-day OCA conference to be held at CAST, Doncaster, South Yorkshire on Saturday 21 May 2016.

The conference will be chaired by Professor Mark Durden, academic, artist and author of many books including Photography Today. It seeks to map out areas for discussion in photography’s relationship to the everyday lived experience, visual culture, evolving technology, archiving and history, news media, education at all levels and public perception.

Speakers at the conference include –

Les Monaghan, OCA tutor, on making art photography for public audiences

Keith Roberts, OCA tutor, on family portraits and the returned gaze

Derek Trillo, OCA tutor, on exploring notions of time through experimental photography

Dawn Woolley, OCA tutor, on selfies, consumer culture and identity

Rachel Smith, OCA tutor,on the materiality of the photograph

A pop-up exhibition of OCA tutor work will also be displayed in CAST during the conference.

Doncaster is well connected by train, it is 1hour and 40 minutes from London Kings Cross, 1 hour 25 minutes from Newcastle, and 1 hour 20 minutes from Manchester. By road it is served by the A1(M) and M18 motorways linking to the M62 and M1.
