The event
Back for its fifth year, Hull International Photography Festival returns to celebrate the cultural importance of photography in the region. Alongside award-winning visiting and local photographers, there will be a host of other events taking place across the city. Joining the festival from London for the first time, PhotoCity and partners Fujiholics will be at the opening weekend, and so will we.  For more information on the wider festival visit the HIP 2018 website. Join the Redeye team for a set of events within the festival programme.

Paul Herrmann, Director of Redeye, the Photography Network, will share his top tips for photographers embarking on a professional career in photography. This two hour session is a taster for the six day professional development programme, It's your Business, taking place in Manchester in February 2019.

It's your Business will address all areas to consider when embarking on a career in photography. Covering areas such as: understanding the photography market, business plans and business models, research and development, networking and nurturing contacts, pricing and copyright, ethics, pitching and presenting, writing funding bids, publishing, exhibiting and print sales. Come along to hear from Paul and see how the longer course might benefit you; there’ll also be plenty of opportunity for any of those burning questions you might have.

Ever had that overwhelming feeling of social anxiety when the word 'networking' is muttered? Ever avoided walking up to a person and introducing yourself as a photographer or artist? Then struggled to remember what your work is, never mind coherently talk about it?
If the answer to any of the above is 'yes', 'maybe' or 'please stop talking about networking', join Redeye for our anti-networking event Hull International Photography Festival.

At Speed Networking, you won't be thrown into a pit of humans and forced to navigate the room like a lost sheep. Instead, you'll sit down with another friendly photographer or artist, tell each other a bit about your work and then move on to the next friendly photographer or artist to repeat the process. Easy, right? By the time you've made your way around the room, you'll have talked about your work so many times you'll be uttering your elevator pitch in your sleep.
