*DUE TO UNEXPECTED ILLNESS, THE TALK WITH MELINDA GIBSON IS NOW CANCELLED. THE PHOTOWALK WITH REDEYE STAFF WILL STILL GO AHEAD*

Join us on the 11th December for the annual Redeye member's Christmas party, with drinks, nibbles and a talk by photographer Melinda Gibson. This event is free and exclusive for Redeye members, as a thank you for your continual support to Redeye.

About Melinda

"It’s pretty clear that Melinda Gibson is looking at photography in a new way. Her images are wonderfully complex and layered, and allow us to question reality." - Lenscratch

Melinda Gibson is interested in the changing perspectives of the photographic medium, and how images are viewed and understood through the technological advances in photography. Her work has included slicing, cutting and de-contextualising of photographs. In her recent celebrated project Lunar Caustic (see image above) with Thomas Sauvin she created new imagery from a huge archive of rescued Chinese negatives, damaged by neglect, fate and the decay of chemical compounds.

Melinda studied for a BA (Hons) in Photography at the London College of Communication and is a Lecturer in Photography at Camberwell College of Arts. She was nominated for the Meijburg Art Commission in 2015, Foam's Paul Huf Award in 2015 and 2014, was selected as one of the jury members for the Unseen Dummy Award 2013, and was winner of the Foam Talent Call and Magenta Foundation Award in 2010. Melinda currently lives and works in London.

Redeye's Christmas photowalk - the photowalk will still go ahead with Redeye staff

Before we begin the festivities in the evening, we would like to invite all those that are interested, to join us for a photowalk through the Manchester christmas markets.

The plan is to meet at Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art at 3pm. Upon arrival you will be given a randomised brief of what to try and capture on your visit to the market. We will then split in to pairs (you can either arrive as a pair or if you are coming on your own we will assign you a partner) and head out around the market. The aim is to come back with a small selection of pictures which can then be uploaded and displayed on a screen later at the party.

This walk is intended for photographers of all levels and styles, and is meant as a fun and informal assigment to meet with other photographers, and gain a new perspective on your work.

The walk, like the Christmas party, is free for Redeye Members and will be led by Redeye staff. If you are not yet a Redeye Member please sign up via this link.

Venue and Timing

This event takes place at the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art on Thomas Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester. The doors for the evening event will open at 6.30pm. The talk begins at 7.00pm. For those who are also coming on the walk, we will meet at CFCCA at 3pm to set the brief and pair up photographers. If you are interested in coming on the walk, please select the photo walk at the time of registering.
