A Stone’s Throw is a colloquial expression meaning ‘a short distance from’ and in this work, John Shinnick, a Manchester photographer, looks at the people who interact with the centre of Manchester: a metaphorical Stone’s Throw from the town hall steps. This fabulous cosmopolitan city has drawn people to it for generations and he set out to find some of these people and their reasons for connecting with the city.

This exhibition builds on John’s 2014 exhibition, ‘Bus Stop Stories’. Viewers of that portrait exhibition commented that they would have loved to have heard the voices behind the images and so, for this work, he has recorded the subjects and you can hear them; the rich accents and insights into the people that you see portrayed.
